So how about throwing your hat into the ring to win a copy of Ivy Manning’s Crackers & Dips? The book includes “More than 50 Handmade Snacks” as its subtitle promises. One of the things that Ivy tapped into for readers is the notion that many of us have a favorite cracker from childhood.
She actually has quite a lot of them, which is why she wrote the book. The cool thing is that Ivy hass offered ways for us to make them at home, with good ingredients and sophisticated twists. Along with the Japanese rice crackers with furikake, I’m looking forward to making these:
Brown butter-hazelnut crackers look like wheat thins (which I used to eat like a fiend) but are a zillion times better. I sampled some at Ivy’s house and they’re incredibly nutty and rich tasting. Nice for holiday entertaining.
Animal crackers with zesty lemon frosting employ regular flour and oat flour for a texture that replicates the commercially made kind. However, Ivy’s recipe is lemony from the inside out. Another smart, sophisticated recipe. And, cookie cutters are involved so you can make a menagerie of crackers.

I usually find Carr's Water Crackers bland and boring, and then I discovered Carr's Rosemary Crackers, more buttery, more like a Ritz cracker, with a subtle hint of rosemary. Now it's the only cracker I buy.

Tabasco Cheezitz are my faves!

When I was in college (three decades ago!), I lived on Better Cheddars. Now I'm more likely to look for something neutral that won't compete with whatever is going on top.
Gigi
Japanese rice crackers from the Japanese Tea Garden with sencha tea! What a memory. I can't wait to try the recipe. If only I could have a cold foggy morning and a view of the red bridge with them. Some other favorite crackers were my Aunt Ruth's benne seed wafers.
Olivia
Carr's Water Crackers with Cracked Pepper!

Ritz are totally my favorite cracker... like need-to-break-my-addiction favorite. I like the mini ones sandwiches with cheese or peanut butter, too, so I really want to learn to make my own, preservative-free! My waistline will thank me 🙂

Oh, you are making me hungry. When I was little, I loved my animal crackers the best. Now, it would have to be Mary's Gone Crackers--they are amazing. I like them with a bit of creme fraiche and fig preserves on top, but I like them naked, too. The cracker, not me. LOL.
But I recently tried making my own crackers. The thinner I rolled them, the better they turned out. This book looks like a keeper, and I bet the recipes are great! Thanks for the chance to win it.
Mary
Since childhood no cracker can top a homemade cracker, especially the rich, buttery sharp cheddar crackers mom used to make with a pinch of cayenne for heat.
daisy
Mary, those sound amazing. Do you have the recipe? Will you share? :o) I'm at daisyaday gmail if you're willing to send it to me.
