Ask me for a cookbook recommendation and I go on and on and perhaps bore you to death with suggestions. I’m a cookbook geek, having read and collected them since childhood. Given that, you can imagine how thrilled I was that Heidi Swanson asked me to write about my favorite ones for her lovely and informative site, 101cookbooks.com. We both share a love of cooking and book making, and can barely stop talking whenever we meet up. I have great respect for Heidi’s thoughtfulness, humor, style, and savvy.
Of course I said “YES!” to her invitation and gave myself a month to come up with a list of favorite cookbooks. But that became two months as I kept pondering the short list. Then the summer’s wildfires prompted me to focus on what I’d do if all my books burnt up in a blaze. How would I replenish my collection to keep me happy and working? The wildfires lit a fire under my feet (poor humor, sorry) and I finally committed to a short list. To take a look-see, do visit Heidi’s site
101cookbooks.com.
I've been eyeing a few books you've mentioned in your list (I'm barely starting my own collection), and will certainly use your list as a guide. I love the bit about getting great success from following your own instructions. I have gotten great results from your recipes and instructions too! :)

Thank you so much. It's funny but when I stray away from my instructions, I can flub. "Darn, I was right!" I say.

I have Hot Sour Salty Sweet and it's such a beautiful book. Can't wait to get your new dumpling book. You can never have too many dumplings!
